The subject of reincarnation is mostly discussed in spiritual or religious aspects, but it remains to be one of the biggest mysteries in life that may remain so. However, one man, who suffered a life-threatening heart attack recalls what he claims to be his brief experience of the afterlife.
A man named Robert recalled his brief experience of life after death after suffering an almost fatal heart attack on the Near-Death Research Foundation. Robert was clinically dead following the heart attack before he was revived, but what he experienced following his supposed death was something he could never forget.
“I remember very little about dying. But I do remember being in a vast field with grey tents spread everywhere. There were faceless figures. I remember walking away through a canyon. On the other side of the canyon were men in white robes with hoods hiding their faces. The last thing I remember was all of them pointing to me. Then the world was swallowed by grey. It’s hard to describe, but I feel like a different person than the person I was before I died,” recalled Robert, who says that the figures in white hoods still appear in his dreams.
According to researchers, however, the visions Robert may have seen do not necessarily indicate the afterlife as it is a normal occurrence.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sam Parnia of the NYU Langone School of Medicine explains what a person feels when they die, revealing that the process is actually very comfortable. Although many who have had near-death experiences recall seeing their departed relatives, Dr. Parnia says that those do not indicate the afterlife.
Dr. Parnia detailed what happens when a person dies, saying that it is more of a process than an abrupt moment. He explained that the lack of oxygen that reaches the brain will cause brain function to shut down, rendering the person unconscious. In turn, as the heart stops, all the functions shut down as well because of the lack of circulation, resulting in the person becoming motionless. It is at that time that the doctors will use to indicate the time of death.
Despite the scientific process, Dr. Parnia shared that for most people who had near-death experiences, even those who suffered or were in pain before dying felt otherwise. Dr. Parnia shared that they felt at peace or at bliss.
