“Riverdale” now has a Reggie Mantle for its upcoming second installment. According to Vulture, the teen drama mystery will be welcoming actor and model Charles Melton to the cast. David Rapaport, the show’s casting director, confirmed this in a May 13th tweet.
Melton has appeared on “American Horror Story” and as a “Model” on a “Glee” episode. However, the AV Club notes that Melton’s social media feed appears to be his ticket towards snagging the role. William Hughes for the site wrote, “[Melton] has an active Instagram account in which he seems almost allergic to keeping his shirt on, which seems like a pretty ringing endorsement to taking on the part of Riverdale’s favorite muscly jerk.”
Last month, "Riverdale" Executive Producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told Access
Hollywood after news broke about recasting the Reggie Mantle character, "”Riverdale" had always wanted to do more with Reggie -- Archie Andrews' rival -- and having to find a new actor to take on the part came about due to the show's plans to expand the role. [W]hen we started talking about Season 2, it felt like we kind of need more Reggie, and we were trying to work it out, but, you know, sometimes these things don't work out.”
Meanwhile, Casey Cott, who plays Kevin Keller, was recently promoted to series regular, TVLine reported. Although his character largely consists of playing sidekick to the four main characters and having a star-crossed romance with Southside Serpents gang member Joaquin, his promotion might mean he will play a much crucial role in Season 2.
