A drone attack that damaged industrial and civilian infrastructure in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region could disrupt household utilities as repairs proceed, regional Governor Gleb Nikitin said Nov. 1.
Nikitin warned that repair work could bring temporary electricity outages and reduced hot-water and heating service on some networks serving homes. He described possible disruptions, not confirmed outages. He put the number of drones destroyed overnight and into the morning at more than 100, and said officials had yet to finish evaluating damage to infrastructure and property.
Russia’s Investigative Committee said the attack damaged an industrial enterprise in Kstovo district as well as civilian infrastructure. It opened a criminal case under Article 205 of Russia’s Criminal Code, which covers terrorism, and attributed the attack to Ukrainian armed formations. The committee said preliminary information indicated no casualties.
Interfax reported that Nizhny Novgorod Mayor Yuri Shalabaev said an industrial enterprise and a municipal utility facility were damaged. Shalabaev said officials were checking whether homes had been affected.
The committee said investigators were working to determine which drone models were used and identify the people it considers responsible. Russian officials have not named the damaged enterprise.
