Russian attacks killed at least six people and injured dozens across multiple regions of Ukraine on Friday, according to regional officials, as Kyiv observed a day of mourning following one of the deadliest assaults on the capital this year.
In the southeastern Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian forces launched more than 50 drone, artillery, and aerial bomb attacks, killing three people and injuring 12. Regional Governor Oleksandr Hanzha said two of the victims were killed near Nikopol, a city located across the Dnipro River from the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. The details were shared through Telegram.
In the neighboring Zaporizhzhia region, two people were killed and 17 others were injured after Russian strikes hit the regional capital, Governor Ivan Fedorov said. The city has faced repeated attacks in recent weeks as fighting continues across southern Ukraine.
Further north, in the border city of Sumy, one person was killed when Russian forces dropped glide bombs on the area, according to Regional Governor Oleh Hryhorov. The Sumy region has remained under sustained pressure as Russian troops continue efforts to establish what Moscow describes as a buffer zone along the border.
Earlier in the day, Ukrainian prosecutors reported that an overnight Russian drone strike on a residential home in northern Sumy region killed four people. Reuters said it was unable to independently verify the reported casualties or battlefield claims.
The latest wave of attacks comes as residents in Kyiv marked a day of mourning after a massive Russian missile and drone assault on Thursday killed at least 30 people. Ukrainian authorities described it as the deadliest attack on the capital so far this year, highlighting the continued escalation of Russia's aerial campaign against cities across Ukraine.
The renewed strikes underscore the ongoing intensity of the Russia-Ukraine war, with civilians continuing to bear the brunt of drone, missile, and artillery attacks across several regions.
