The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) delayed Grayscale's spot Litecoin (LTC) and Solana (SOL) exchange-traded funds (ETFs) to October 2025. The SEC requires additional time to decide whether these ETFs meet investor protection, market integrity, and securities law requirements.
Final decision date in the Grayscale Solana ETF case is October 2025 and the review of Litecoin ETF is October 10, 2025. SEC delay was warranted on grounds of requirements for further review of the risk of market manipulation, custody activity, liquidity, and other investor protections.
Despite the setbacks, market experts are positive, and prediction markets reflect favorable odds of approval of Solana and Litecoin ETFs by the end of 2025. Such setbacks are characteristic of the risk-averse SEC approach towards crypto ETFs, particularly altcoin-based, even after giving a nod to spot Bitcoin ETFs in early 2025.
