SK Signet Inc. announced Tuesday, March 12, that it has built a cyber security reinforcement system for electric vehicle chargers. The South Korean leader in charging technology solutions teamed up with Fescaro Co. for this project.
Solutions for Cybersecurity
As per Pulse News, SK Signet and Fescaro, a firm that specializes in automotive software and security systems, carried out a comprehensive assessment of the cybersecurity status of electric vehicle chargers. They executed a threat analysis process and several evaluations and devised countermeasures for the prioritized types of threats based on the results.
SK Signet also created an overall security program for flexible response to any cyber threats that may come along the way. The companies built this cybersecurity reinforcement system for EV chargers because it became evident that security is crucial for EVs, as the unit itself is powered and controlled by software.
Other Technologies Are in the Works
The Korea Economic Daily reported that as EV chargers communicate and exchange information with vehicle units and manage various software such as membership services and payment systems, cybersecurity has become even more critical. Owners of EVs will not want their systems compromised, or they will lose valuable data that may also mess up how their vehicles function.
In any case, to further improve customer convenience and security, SK Signet is also developing a Charger Integrated Support System (CISS). This security system will offer real-time monitoring and total control over chargers. It will also feature remote execution of over-the-air (OTA) software updates.
“We will build the CISS in the near future based on the enhanced EV charger cybersecurity system, which will protect the assets and information of charger users to provide safe charging services,” Yoo Byung Woo, the senior research and development (R&D) official at SK Signet stated.
