South Korea's STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co. has completed the design of a 7,500 cubic-meter liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering ship in cooperation with the government-funded Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering, .
A bunkering vessel needs to have the capabilities of storing LNG in tanks after cooling it to minus 163 celsius before directly supplying it to LNG-powered ships on the ocean.
In 2017, STX Offshore built a 6,500-cubic-meter LNG bunkering ship for global energy company Shell.
Last month, the mid-sized shipbuilder signed preliminary deals to build four ships for foreign firms.
STX Offshore has been put up for sale.
