Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe attended the 2019 British Academy Scotland Awards that was held on Nov. 3. The “Outlander” stars graced the event as award presenters, and they were mobbed by hundreds of fans when they showed up at the venue in Glasgow.
Heughan praised their fans for supporting “Outlander”
Seeing how the fans flocked to see them, Heughan praised their “Outlander” supporters and called them the “hardiest in the world.” he said those words because most of them braved the freezing weather just to see them up close. Independent.IE reported that to show their appreciation, the actor and Caitríona Balfe granted their fans’ wish for selfies while they were still outside of the hall.
“They are the hardiest fans in the world – the brave all the climates – all weathers,” Heughan said. “They are amazing, they’re always so passionate and so supportive, so it’s amazing to see,” Balfe added.
Moreover, Heughan said that he is honored to have played a role in "bringing Scotland to the rest of the world." He said this because as people got to know him and Balfe through Starz’s “Outlander” series, they also unintentionally acted as promotional ambassadors that represent their native countries.
In any case, Heughan and Balfe presented the best director award alongside “Outlander” castmates Sophie Turner and Richard Rankin. The BAFTA awards ceremony was held at the Doubletree Hilton Hotel.
Update on the fifth season of “Outlander”
Meanwhile, during the event, Sam Hueghan and Caitriona Balfe also shared some updates about the upcoming “Outlander” season 5. They said that they are close to wrapping up filming so fans can expect the drama soon.
As to what to expect in the fifth installment, The Hollywood Reporter quoted Starz president and CEO, Chris Albrecht, as saying, “Fans can rest assured their beloved Claire and Jamie will be back facing new challenges, adversaries, and adventures in seasons five and six as we delve into American history and continue the story of the Frasers as they settle in the New World.”
Finally, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe’s drama is set to premiere on Feb. 16, 2020, in the U.S., while fans in the U.K. can watch it starting Feb. 17, 2020, via Amazon Prime Video.
