Many fans have possibly binge-watched through the 10 newest episodes of “Santa Clarita Diet” season 3. If so, they would know by now that Joel Hammond (Timothy Olyphant) has most likely been turned into an undead zombie just like the love of his life, Sheila Hammond (Drew Barrymore). Fans will have to sit through this cliffhanger for a while as Netflix has yet to order “Santa Clarita Diet” season 4.
The last three minutes of “Santa Clarita Diet” season 3 is also one of the most important sequences in the installment that premiered last March 29. Sheila’s “pet,” Mr. Ball Legs, hopped on to Joel’s shoulder and suddenly made his way inside his body through Joel’s ear.
Before “Santa Clarita Diet” season 3 ended, Joel weirdly said, “Mama.” A major indication that Mr. Ball Legs — a spider carrying the zombie virus — possessed Joel. To avert any negative outcomes, Sheila bites Joel in the neck. A few moments later, he greets her, “Hello.” Now, many fans are betting that “Santa Clarita Diet” season 4 will begin with an undead Joel. This also means that the Hammond couple can now be together eternally.
Unfortunately, there is no assurance yet whether or not fans will get to explore Joel’s life as a zombie. Netflix has not yet announced the making of “Santa Clarita Diet” season 4. Fans might also have to wait a month or two to learn of Netflix’s decision.
If fans get to see Joel’s new life in “Santa Clarita Diet” season 4, showrunner Victor Fresco confirmed that the season 3 finale will change the dynamic of Joel and Sheila’s relationship. “We like where it ends and if we're back for a season four, we would love to explore this whole other dynamic now that would just be really interesting in their marriage and what is Joel going to be like,” Fresco told the Hollywood Reporter.
