‘Shadowhunters’ Season 4 Latest News, Update: Spoilers Annoy Showrunners, Series Finale Ruin Adds Sorrow to Cancellation

With “Shadowhunters” Season 4 being canceled and the series officially getting canned, it’s no wonder that the showrunners are annoyed with the series finale getting spoiled. It was supposed to be the ending to a show they worked hard on. The fact that the details were released would obviously cause distress. Even so, a recent interview provided some information on what else fans can expect.

It would appear that despite the cancellation of the series, showrunners Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer tried to make the best of what they got. There were supposed to be story details that would be properly concluded in “Shadowhunters” Season 4. Since that was no longer possible, the writers had to work hard to condense everything in the season 3 finale.

"Our immediate feeling was that it was incredibly daunting, and it was almost an impossible task," Swimmer revealed during an interview with TV Guide. "But we already had an overall idea of what Season 4 would be. A lot of what we see in the episode turned out to be condensed versions of what would have taken several episodes in whatever we projected Season 4 to have been. So that was kind of our launching off point.”

"We got some of the writers together, so we had a mini-writing staff," Slavkin said in the same interview, "and it was super exciting to plan because we're fans of the show — what would we want to see? How do we want these people to end up? How are we going to feel at the end? We're positive people... we love pushing off the show and examining everyone so that the fanfiction writers could just go crazy after it's over. Those stories all continue in each of their own ways."

As for the spoilers that came out regarding details that should have made the “Shadowhunters” Season 4 cancellation somewhat bearable, the showrunners talked about that, as well. All things considered, they seem to take it quite well.

"It's unfortunate that things were spoiled, but not everything was spoiled and there's a lot of shocks, surprises and thrills a long the way," Swimmer said.
