‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ was recently filmed during production in Atlanta. The new video showed Spidey showing off some stunt work on the filming set. Meanwhile, comedian Martin Starr attempted to drop spoilers during a video message to Conan O’Brien for his show live from the San Diego Comic-Con.
According to Comicbook Resources, a new video from the Atlanta filming set have recently emerged showing an actor in full costume as the red and blue web slinger doing stunts by a busy street.
The video, posted by Twitter user @AtlantaFilming, showed Tom Holland’s titular character suspended with wires. He eventually dropped in on a presumably bad guy on a bike and sent him hurtling upwards. He topped off his Spidey moves with a wave of his hand.
Although it remains unknown whether Holland or his stunt man was behind the stunt work, the video still provided a glimpse of Spider-Man’s moves for the upcoming film.
Holland is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in his own standalone film scheduled to be released on July 2017. He was first introduced as Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man in Joe and Anthony Russo’s ‘Captain America: Civil War’. Spidey allied with Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man to help defeat Captain America’s opposing team of superheroes.
Stan Lee, former president and chairman of Marvel Comics and executive producer of ‘Captain America: Civil War’, expressed his praise for Holland’s portrayal of Spider-Man during a previous interview at the Denver Comic-Con. Lee said, "Oh, he's wonderful! I was with him the other day. He is great! I can't believe it. It's as if we created a living being to be Spider-Man, and it turned out to be him!"
The Russo Brothers’ film became a critical success, with many praising the performances including Holland’s. Its visuals and storyline were also well received. According to Box Office Mojo, it grossed $1.15 billion worldwide on a $250 million budget and currently holds the spot for highest-grossing film of 2016.
Holland is set reprise his role in Jon Watt’s film alongside co-stars Downey Jr. and Marissa Tomei. Actor and comedian Martin Starr has also joined the new cast in a yet identified role.
According to Comicbook.com, Starr attempted to drop spoilers on a video message aired during Conan O’Brien’s show at the San Diego Comic Con. Starr opened the video with an apology saying, “Sorry I couldn’t be there to hang out with you all in person – not individually but, you know, up on stage. We’d be still very far apart. But we’d be closer than we are currently.”
He went on to explain that he was busy filming ‘Spider-Man’ in Atlanta. Before he could reveal his character’s identity, the video was cut short with a white-on-black message that said “CENSORED. Comic-Con Spoiler Police”. Starr then came back on saying that he was going to disclose an important detail on the upcoming film but before he could say anything else, it was cut short once more.
Audiences didn’t seem too disappointed as Starr’s abrupt “sign off” left them applauding. Although Starr remained mum on his role, it was speculated that he will be playing one of Peter’s high school teachers.
‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film based on the Marvel character of the same name. It is directed by Jon Watts and written by Jonathan M. Goldstein and John Francis Daley. It is produced under Columbia Pictures, Pascal Pictures, Marvel Enterprises, Marvel Entertainment, and Marvel Studios.
The film is scheduled to premiere on July 7, 2017.
