Spotify added a music video feature to its platform and is currently testing it. This feature allows for the production of full-length music videos, so it is a new function that could become popular soon.
As per GSM Arena, Spotify announced its music videos on Wednesday, March 13. The company said they are in Beta and are now available in select markets. The Swedish audio streaming and media service provider said this feature is unavailable in the United States.
Markets with Music Videos on Spotify’s App
The company said it has rolled out the new function on its Spotify platform, which operates in the United Kingdom, Italy, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, the Philippines, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, and Kenya. However, the available music videos are limited since the feature is still in Beta.
Despite this, users can expect a good catalog to browse, as it already has big hits from well-known global artists such as Ed Sheeran, Ice Spice, and Doja Cat. There will also be content from some local artists like Asake and Aluna.
How to Watch the Music Videos
Spotify said that users will have access to the music videos, which are instantly playable if they are Premium subscribers from the selected markets. The videos can be played on iOS, Android, online, and the Spotify app on TV.
Spotify previously introduced short Clips, which are 30-second vertical videos that artists can make to connect with fans. Now, these videos are longer and resemble those on YouTube; thus, it was predicted that Spotify’s version could rival Google’s online video-sharing and social media platform.
“So many times in my own experience and for countless others, music videos play a key role in hooking you: taking you from being a listener to leaning in and becoming a fan,” Spotify’s vice president and head of music product, Charlie Hellman, said in the announcement. “They are an important part of so many artists’ tool kits, and it is a natural fit for them to live in the same place that more than half a billion people choose to listen to music.”
