“Star Wars: Episode IX” is currently scheduled to hit theatres in December, which is still 10 months away. However, it would appear that the trolls are not willing to wait that long to lambast the film prior to its release. This is why the movie is now getting the same treatment as “Captain Marvel” with a flurry of fake reviews hitting Rotten Tomato.
As Comic Book reports, irate users are currently flooding the Rotten Tomato page of “Star Wars: Episode IX” with fake reviews that are impacting the film’s score. Unlike with “Captain Marvel,” the things being said are much more varied. However, there are still many comments being left that are of an unmistakably sexist nature, a lot of which involve the films’ female characters.
Now, it’s worth pointing out that this particular trend has been building steam for a while. Movie fans dissatisfied with the way their favorite franchises are being treated are taking advantage of the ability to air out their grievances. In the case of the “Star Wars: Episode IX” review bombs, many of the complaints involve the death of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and the direction of the film.
There have also been complaints about Disney in how it is supposedly contaminating the franchise with its family-friendly vibe, thus removing much of its charm. On any other forum, these complaints about “Star Wars: Episode IX” might have been worth looking into. However, the fake reviews simply don’t make for a convincing read to publications and the like.
When “Star Wars: Episode IX” finally hits cinemas, it’s likely that the score on Rotten Tomato will be offset by real reviews. Until then, the film will simply have to suffer the fake reviews and the folks behind the movie will just have put up with the complaints being leveled against them.
