‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ may find Rey turning to the dark side after learning that Luke Skywalker killed her parents. Daisy Ridley returns to play Rey. She has recently signed on to star in Doug Liman’s upcoming post-apocalyptic film based on the young adult books ‘Chaos Walking’.
According to The Week, Rey may be poised to turn to the dark side after new speculation emerged that Luke Skywalker may have been behind the murder of her parents. Rey is a human scavenger from the planet Jakku who becomes involved with the Resistance after meeting ex-Stormtrooper Finn and Resistance pilot Poe Dameron.
Rey was first introduced as the main protagonist on J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens’. According to The Numbers, Abrams’ film became a critical and commercial success after earning $2.06 billion worldwide on a production budget of $306 million. It became the highest-grossing installment in Lucasfilm’s epic space opera franchise, which began in 1977 with the film ‘Star Wars’ otherwise known as ‘Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope’.
In ‘The Force Awakens’, Rey went head to head with the franchise’s latest villain Kylo Ren. She was last seen finally meeting Jedi master Luke Skywalker after traveling to the aquatic planet Ahch-To. Previous speculations suggested that she will train under Luke to become a Jedi knight after it was revealed that she possessed special abilities to fight off the dark force.
However, new rumors pointed out that Rey will eventually turn to the evil side after she finds out that it was Luke who killed her parents. The ‘Star Wars’ cinematic series is known for injecting surprising plot twists.
One such example is turning Jedi knight Anakin Skywalker into the dark lord Darth Vader, who was also revealed as Luke and Leia’s biological father. Another plot twist involved turning Leia and Han Solo’s own son into the dark warrior Kylo Ren.
British actress Daisy Ridley is set to reprise her role as Rey in the upcoming film. She joins returning cast mates Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, and Carrie Fisher.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ridley is set to tackle on a new project now that ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ has wrapped production. She has signed on to star in Doug Liman’s new live-action adaptation of the post-apocalyptic thriller series ‘Chaos Walking’ authored by Patrick Ness. The 24-year old actress was reportedly the first to get cast in the new film.
‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film scheduled to be released on December 15, 2017. It is written and directed by Rian Johnson. It is produced by Ram Bergman and Kathleen Kennedy and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Tommy Harper, and Jason D. McGatlin.
