The Stein Early Childhood Development Fund, through the California Community Foundation, has awarded a total of $300,000 to three nonprofit organizations working to educate and inspire action from the public to support quality child care, education and experiences for pre-natal to three-year-old children, their caregivers and their families. Each nonprofit will receive a two-year $100,000 grant.

“We want to promote the well-being of very young children, so they become responsible, successful and caring individuals,” said Gene Stein. “There is a lack of awareness around the importance of early childhood. We intend to raise awareness, build public support and inspire action from the general public to support the development of infants and toddlers.”
The Advancement Project California, ZERO TO THREE and Paid Leave for the United States will use their grant dollars to amplify and coordinate the voices of families and early childcare professionals. Their efforts will educate policymakers at the federal, state and local levels on the importance of investing in infants, toddlers and their families.
“Through the generosity of The Stein Early Childhood Development Fund, ZERO TO THREE will use this grant to help make the potential of every baby a priority in Los Angeles County,” said Matthew Melmed, executive director, ZERO TO THREE. ”We will host Strolling Thunder, a unique advocacy event in the Los Angeles area to highlight the critical first three years of life. This event will bring together families and advocates with policymakers to ensure a laser focus on issues affecting early childhood development.”
