Steven already dealt with most of the threats after two “Steven Universe Future” episodes dropped last December 28, 2018. But fans who have been taking notes were quick to realize that there are still a couple of potentially powerful threats that need to be neutralized in the limited series.
One of these is White Diamond. In “Steven Universe Future,” Diamonds are leaders of Gem society. They are held in high esteem by their followers to the point of worship, which is understandable considering that their society is a cross between religion and a matriarchal government, according to CBR.
They are also very powerful and nearly unstoppable as proven by Blue and Yellow Diamonds. Thankfully, White Diamond became Steven’s ally when Steven’s pure diamond form rebond with his human side.
But this alliance is not set in stone and there still a chance that it could unravel fast. Having White Diamond is indeed very problematic since she is far more powerful than the other Diamonds they’ve encountered so far.
One way this could happen is if Steven somehow infects her with his pick energy. When this happens, she might become furious once more and even turn into a representation of Steven’s more aggressive side. Now that’s a mess that’ll be definitely hard to deal with.
Another potential “Steven Universe Future” threat is the huge Worm. It’s unlike any of the threat Steven had dealt with thus far. In fact, the Diamonds themselves had to ask for Steven’s assistance, which indicates that the Worm is something unusual even to them.
It is yet unsure if the stranger creature will eventually go berserk and turn against everyone else. Thankfully, the gems are already used to dealing with corrupted gems in their monstrous form.
This experience might be helpful in keeping the Worm in check should it becomes a future threat. But should the creature prove to be more powerful than any corrupted gems they’ve encountered, then Steven will have to be called in to deal with it.
Meanwhile, Mary Sue wrote that perhaps the biggest threat he had to face in future episodes is himself. This is already evident in the previous episodes that he is losing control as his powers are now more affected by his emotions.
“Steven wants to grow, but he wants to be in control of everyone’s growth,” the publication wrote. “He can’t, and so he needs to let go, which is probably going to be a big part of the second half of the season.”
