“Steven Universe: The Movie” is on its way and soon will hit the theaters. Its creator, Rebecca Sugar, dropped the surprise announcement before a cheering crowd at the Cartoon Network panel presented by the San Diego Comic-Con last weekend.
Rebecca was accompanied by the “Steven Universe: The Movie” main cast, including Zach Callison (Steven Universe), Estelle (Garnet), Michaela Dietz (Amethyst), Shelby Rabara (Peridot) and Deedee Magno (Pearl). To excite the fans more, the teaser for the movie was also played, Entertainment Weekly reported.
The 13-second clip showed a spinning crystal heart, and in every turn, Steven and the gems appear on its surface one by one. No other teaser was shown but the short video was enough to stir debate among fans on what it could mean.
The biggest puzzle is probably the identity of the character that appeared at the end of the preview. Who or what it could be?
In any case, Cartoon Network also publicized the coming of the “Steven Universe: The Movie” via its official Twitter account. A short video of Rebecca’s announcement was also posted, along with the message that reads, "Cartoon Network also announced *CRIES IN SAN DIEGO* You guys, we’re getting a Steven Universe Movie soon.” The post also featured the #StevenUniverseMovie #StevenUniverse hashtags, and as fans started to use them as well, they trended for a while.
Another good news for all avid viewers of this animated comedy is that the DVD for “Steven Universe: The Heart of the Crystal Gems” series is also set to arrive on Aug. 14. Fans who have missed the recent episodes can watch them through the disk. The DVD collection offers 10 episodes.
Meanwhile, the premiere date for “Steven Universe: The Movie” is still not available, but while waiting, fans can enjoy the show on Cartoon Network channel on Saturdays at 2 p.m.
“Steven Universe” was first released on Nov. 4, 2013. It is the first CN animation that was created by a woman. It became so popular that versions for video games, comics and books were produced and all of them were hits too.
