Subway IP LLC released a new food item in time for the Veganuary, an event organized in the month of January to promote vegan food. This annual affair aims to encourage people to shift to plant-based food and use vegan products.
For this year’s Veganuary, Subway, a food restaurant chain specializing in sandwiches and salads, is launching the Plant Picante sandwich. This will be the newest addition to the brand’s sub lineup.
Plant Picante’s Launch Details
Subway said the new plant-based sub sandwich is coming to its stores across the United Kingdom on Jan. 10. Aside from the goal of encouraging people to be vegan; the company is also releasing this fresh item to cater to the growing demand of customers for meat-less options, as per Wales Online.
Plant Picante sub sandwich is said to be part of Subway’s Signature Series product lineup. It will be sold in two options, which are the standard sub-size of six inches or the 12-inch footlong.
Customers may also request any type of bread for their Plant Picante order. It can also be served as a plant-based salad or wrap. Moreover, based on the preferences of the customers, they may also opt for any sauces such as Sweet Onion, Teriyaki, or Garlic and herbs, which go well with plant-based food orders.
What is in Subway’s New Sub Menu?
The Plant Picante is made up of a spiced plant patty with crispy onions and topped with either vegan Cheeze or American-style cheese. The first cheese option is ideal if one wants a completely plant-based alternative. Like the other sandwiches, this also comes with tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, and cucumbers.
“We are excited to be launching the Plant Picante this January, which like all our Subs is fully customizable to your taste and adds to the range of vegetarian and plant-based options that we have at Subway,” Subway’s senior new product development and product innovation manager, Rusty Warren, said in a statement. “For a vibrant and flavourful option during Veganuary, why not give it a try with our Vegan Cheeze and our legendary Vegan Double Choc Cookie for a fully plant-based meal.”
Meanwhile, Trend Hunter noted that many restaurants like Subway are expanding their vegan offerings as plant-based food items are growing in popularity in the quick-service restaurant (QSR) industry. Adding these kinds of menus to their stores creates new opportunities for businesses as they would be pushed to create more vegetarian choices that people would patronize.
