“Suits” season 9 is going to be final series installment for USA Network’s legal drama. Many fans are likely devastated to hear that the show is coming to an end this year and, somehow, Gabriel Macht feels the same way.
Macht has been playing the role of lawyer Harvey Specter for almost a decade now. That may seem like a very long time, but the actor said he would have loved to maintain the role beyond “Suits” season 9.
In an interview with TVLine, Macht said “Suits” season 9 being the show’s finale is “totally bittersweet.” He then stated his gratitude for having a “steady job” through the years and having his “second family” because of the show. He added, “I see where it could have gone a little bit longer, but I also see that nine years is, like… how often do any shows make it this far?”
The actor, who has been a series regular since season 1, added that they already have a “solid” worldwide fanbase that would have loved to see the show go on “forever.” Macht said he would have loved to let fans have that, but he also explained why it is okay for the show to end in “Suits” season 9.
He explained that part of him says working on the same show for almost a decade “is a long time” and implied that “it’s time to work” on other projects after “Suits” season 9. In the end, Macht said, “I’ve come to terms with the ending of it, and it’s really bittersweet.”
In the same interview, Macht said if he is given the chance he would love to bring back all the actors that had an important role in the series. Since “Suits” season 9 was confirmed to be the last, fans were wondering if there is any chance to bring back Harvey’s ever-reliable buddy Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams).
Meghan Markle’s former onscreen partner also said he is hoping to make an appearance in the final season, but nothing is set in stone at this point. “Suits” season 9 will premiere in summer.
