‘Supernatural’ season 12’s episode 11, titled “Regarding Dean,” is set to feature Jensen Ackles’ character forgetting about his past after being hit by a powerful spell that erases his memories.
The synopsis for “Regarding Dean” posted on TV Guide reads, “Sam enlists Rowena's help to track down an old world, powerful family of witches after Dean gets hit by a spell that is rapidly erasing his memory.”
The upcoming episode is set to shift its focus on Jensen Ackles’ main protagonist Dean Winchester as he gets hit by a powerful spell that will erase his memories. According to International Business Times, viewers will get to see a more “childlike” version of dean as he forgets his personal baggage accumulated through the years by battling supernatural creatures such as ghosts and vampires.
The promo opens to Dean realizing that he has blacked out and forgetting events from the previous night. His brother Sam (Jared Padalecki) even attempts to ask him about the last thing he did. Presumably, he wouldn’t be able to recall much about anything.
Although Rowena (Ruth Connell) seems to enjoy this version of Dean, she will have to work with Sam to help him recover his memories before he forgets Sam and everyone else entirely. In the promo, Rowena asks Sam, “Do we have to fix him?”
Sam and Rowena will have to track down a family of powerful witches from the old world to complete this mission. During an interview with TV Line, executive producer Andrew Dabb hinted, “Dean’s not physically de-aging, but rather “trapped in a Memento-type loop, where he’s kind of losing his memory a little bit.”
He continued, “For him, as someone who struggles with all the baggage from years and years of doing a very, very difficult job, it almost becomes freeing, in a way. So you’re going to see a Dean that is a lot more fun and childlike. Jensen [Ackles] does a great job. Then it becomes a much more tragic story as he starts to forget Sam — and himself.”
‘Supernatural’ season 12’s episode 11, titled “Regarding Dean,” is scheduled to air on February 9, 2017 on The CW. It was directed by John Badham and written by Meredith Glynn. It will be followed by episode 12, titled "Stuck in the Middle (With You)," directed by Richard Speight, Jr. and scheduled for February 16.
