The TON blockchain has returned online after an outage caused by the DOGS memecoin airdrop, with block production resuming early on August 28.
TON Back Online After Outage
The blockchain that is part of the Telegram Open Network (TON) has been brought back online after suffering problems that forced its network to stop producing new blocks for a certain amount of time.
"TON is now producing blocks normally!" On August 28 at 5:00 am UTC, the TON Foundation announced on its X page that they are back online.
According to Cointelegraph, the data from the TON transaction scanner Dton.io indicates that the TON blockchain has resumed the production of new blocks. As of the time of this writing, the network has a total of 231,879,089 blocks in circulation.
Network Traffic Disruption
The most recent TON update was released two hours after the TON foundation formally announced that block production had been disrupted owing to the excessive network traffic.
DOGS is a new TON-based memecoin that was created to encapsulate the spirit and culture of the Telegram community. According to reports, the outages were caused by exceptional network congestion that was experienced as a result of the airdrop of Dogs coin.
DOGS Airdrop Causes Congestion
"Several validators are unable to clean the database of old transactions, which has led to losing the consensus," TON pointed out.
As a means of reestablishing the consensus, the Foundation announced that the TON Core had issued a call to validators, requesting that they recommence at four o'clock in the morning UTC.
"Rest assured your transactions will be made, and no cryptocurrency assets will be lost due to the issue," the TON Foundation noted.
