Taylor Swift is finally back on TikTok, and this news has fans around the world in a great mood. The 34-year-old American superstar's music was removed from ByteDance's short-form video hosting service in January following a dispute with Universal Music Group, which publishes Swift's songs.
Then again, despite the reported return of Taylor Swift's music to TikTok, it does not mean the company's conflict with UMG is over. Based on the reports, it seems the singer reached a deal with the platform to bring her songs back to the site. The timing of her re-appearance on TikTok is perfect as she is set to drop her new studio album, "The Tortured Poets Department," soon.
Universal Music Group and TikTok's Spat
As mentioned on BBC News, UMG pulled out songs of its artists in January, including big names in the music industry such as Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Drake, and Ariana Grande. The record label explained that it failed to reach a licensing agreement with TikTok; thus, thousands of songs were removed from the site.
At that time, Universal Music claimed that TikTok had been building its music-based business without paying for the music. The company added it is concerned because the China-based video hosting service is also not compensating artists for AI-generated songs.
Grand Return to the Popular Platform
Taylor Swift's music is now available again on TikTok, and the comeback happened on Thursday of this week. Her fans called the "Swifties," have excitedly welcomed her to the site and expressed their delight over the return of her music, albeit not all of her tracks.
NBC News reported that one of Taylor Swift's songs that reappeared on TikTok is "All Too Well." Many of the singer's videos that were not pulled out in January were playable, but the music was blocked, and now they have restored the audio. Meanwhile, not all of the songs are back, and many of the artists' music is still unavailable for viewing on TikTok.
