Ever since fans have noticed the presence of Doomfist on official Overwatch videos, they have been clamoring for actor Terry Crews to voice the character. As players recently found out, however, this did not end up happening. It seems a lot of it had to do with the fact that the ex-NFL player’s positive personality would not have fit the character. In fact, Crews himself says that the result is perfect.
In a recent interview with PC Gamer, the beloved pop figure commented on the dismay that fans felt when the Doomfist character during the reveal did not feature his voice. In fact, not only was it not Crews, it was nowhere near what players were even expecting. Doomfist was brooding, angry, and vengeful. According to the actor, this is the reason why he could not voice the character.
"The creators have a vision and I didn’t want to mess that up. I was not interested in trying to hijack the game, I let them know that whatever fitted in their programme I would love to do,” Crews said. "When I saw that Doomfist was created, that they’d went with another guy, the whole thing, it’s actually quite perfect, it’s absolutely amazing. I can honestly say that they made a move that’s better for the game, which is what they’re about. I know people were upset but I’m not."
Crews did reassure fans that when the time comes and Blizzard has someone that he could voice, it would be perfect. Players just need to wait for that time.
For fans who want to know a little more about Doomfist, Blizzard just released new comics that heavily featured the new character, Twinfinite reports. Accompanying the cybernetic brawler is Sombra and Talon, which should prove interesting to those who are invested in the backstories of Overwatch.
