A Tesla Cybertruck caught fire after a collision with a fire hydrant in Harlingen, Texas, raising concerns about the unique challenges firefighters face with electric vehicle fires.

Tesla Cybertruck Fire Incident

There have been two reported incidents of fires in Tesla Cybertrucks, and this one happened when one of these vehicles crashed into a fire hydrant in an unusual manner.

Official figures show that the rate of fires involving electric vehicles is not greater than that of vehicles fuelled by fossil fuels. However, they burn differently and catch fire for different causes, so firefighters have to be flexible.

Battery Issues Linked to EV Fires

As was the case with the Bolt EV, there have also been instances in which electric vehicle fires have been attributed to improperly functioning batteries.

Back at the beginning of this month, Electrek published a report on a horrific accident involving a Cybertruck that resulted in a fire.

Another Tesla Cybertruck fire has been reported; this one is particularly amusing since the driver careened into a fire hydrant.

Harlingen, Texas, was the location of the collision that took place yesterday afternoon.

The driver of the Cybertruck collided with a fire hydrant at Sam's Club and Bass Pro Shop, on Spur 54 and Bass Pro Drive, according to Assistant Fire Chief Ruben Balboa and the Harlingen Police Department.

Reddit users shared a video of the disaster's aftermath:

Battery Fire Reignites After Extinguishing

The fire was swiftly put out by the fire service, although reports indicate that it returned. Valley Central, a local news outlet, stated:

"First responders say they thought they had extinguished the flames coming from the Cybertruck, but shortly after stopping the water flow onto the battery, the fire began again."

The authorities did not mention any injuries that were associated with this collision.
