Tesla has officially brought its highly anticipated Cybertruck to the Canadian market, with prices starting at $137,990 CAD. The premium pricing is on par with U.S. rates, potentially limiting its appeal among Canadian consumers.
Tesla Expands Cybertruck Orders to Canadian Market
In Canada, Tesla has debuted their long-awaited Cybertruck, but the exorbitant costs may make potential buyers think twice.
Tesla is making good progress on clearing its massive Cybertruck backlog, as we highlighted yesterday. Specifically, its anticipated that Tesla would expand its order acceptance to include a broader range of individuals and markets, including Canada.
Inviting Canadian Cybertruck reservation holders to turn their reservations into orders, Tesla began sending out invitations today.
Per Teslarati, price details for the two trim levels offered by the manufacturer are as follows:
• Cybertruck AWD Foundation Series: $137,990 CAD
• Cyberbeast Foundation Series: $165,990 CAD
Some car companies will lower prices to appeal to Canadian buyers despite the unfavorable exchange rate, but Tesla has no plans to do so. When expressed in Canadian dollars, these costs are very similar to their US equivalents.
Tesla Limits Cybertruck Options in Canada to High-End Models
Just as in the US, you can only get the Foundation Series, which includes all the options for an additional $20,000.
By year's end, Tesla is likely to begin taking orders for the standard Cybertruck, excluding the rear-wheel-drive variant.
Tesla Cybertruck's Price in Canada Faces Currency Challenge
Electrek expresses their skepticism on Cybertruck's potential to garner significant popularity in the Canadian market. Once you factor in the conversion rate, the final price is absurdly exorbitant.
In Canada, EV buyers can find a number of attractive options for electric pickup trucks, with prices ranging from $59,995 to $110,495 for the F150 Lightning and $75,000 to $118,000 for the Silverado EV.
To be honest, with the Foundation Series, both top prices are lower than Tesla's base Cybertruck costs; but, even without those extras, it will still be cheaper.
