French President Emmanuel Macron has called for an urgent United Nations Security Council meeting following a sharp escalation in the Middle East after the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iran. Macron warned that the outbreak of direct conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran carries “serious consequences” for international peace and global security.
In a statement posted on X, Macron emphasized that the rising tensions threaten stability across the region and beyond. He described the current escalation as dangerous for all parties and stressed that immediate de-escalation is critical to avoid a broader regional war. The French leader urged Iranian authorities to engage in good-faith negotiations aimed at ending Tehran’s nuclear program, halting the development of ballistic missiles, and stopping actions that destabilize neighboring countries.
According to Macron, diplomatic dialogue remains the only viable solution to restore security in the Middle East. He underscored that renewed negotiations are essential not only for regional stability but also for global non-proliferation efforts. France has consistently advocated for diplomatic engagement with Iran, particularly regarding its nuclear ambitions and military capabilities.
The latest conflict erupted after US and Israeli forces carried out strikes on Iranian targets on Saturday. US President Donald Trump said the military action was intended to neutralize what he described as a growing security threat to the United States. Trump also suggested that the strikes could create an opportunity for political change within Iran.
The situation has raised widespread international concern over the risk of a prolonged military confrontation, disruptions to global energy markets, and further instability in an already volatile region. As world leaders monitor developments, Macron’s call for an emergency UN Security Council session signals mounting diplomatic pressure to prevent the crisis from spiraling into a wider war.
