Tesla was called by Chinese government officials as the State Administration for Market Regulation has been receiving a growing number of complaints regarding the quality of Tesla’s electric cars.
As per Reuters, the regulators have received complaints from the consumers and mentioning various issues on Tesla cars, including sudden accelerations, software update failures, and battery fires.
Tesla reprimanded by Chinese officials
As soon as the authorities in China that consist of reps from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Cyberspace Administration, and Ministry of Transportation, and Ministry of Emergency Management, summoned Tesla for a dialogue, it immediately set a date to meet with them. However, when the meeting took place was not mentioned.
The group and Tesla discussed matters relating to the company’s electric cars. The consumers are complaining about different things, and the Chinese authorities urged the American carmaker to address the issues as soon as possible.
Elon Musk’s company’s response
Moreover, Tesla issued an official statement via China’s leading microblogging platform. In its post, the firm vowed to comply with Chinese laws and ensure the safety of the consumers.
“Tesla sincerely accepts the guidance of government departments, deeply reflects on the company's shortcomings in the business process, and comprehensively strengthens self-inspection,” the automaker wrote on Weibo. “We will strictly abide by Chinese laws and regulations and always respect consumer rights.”
Tesla stated that it is currently improving its internal working mechanisms and management with guidance from the Chinese authorities. It further assured Tesla owners that they will be investigating the technical problems and work on appropriate solutions.
Tesla stated that its main responsibility is to maintain the good quality of its products and the safety of the drivers, so they will check everything and do what they must after determining the defects.
In any case, it was said that it is rare for Tesla to be summoned, but this case is understandable because the company also operates a plant in China.
Meanwhile, Tesla is now building Model Y and Model 3 electric cars in its Shanghai super factory. It started to sell the EVs in the region just last month, and so far, it has already sold around 15,484 China-made units.
