Tesla has once again made transfers accessible for its free lifetime Supercharging offer, as long as customers who qualify receive a new vehicle within the next few months.
Tesla Relaunches Lifelong Supercharging Transfers For A Limited Period
Those with unlimited lifetime Supercharging can now transfer the benefit to a new Model S, X, or Y when they take delivery by March 31, 2024, as discovered by Sawyer Merritt on Saturday morning. Early Model S and X owners were granted the bonus for the life of their vehicles, while transfers to new vehicles have been offered intermittently over the years.
Last year, Tesla made it possible to transfer the unrestricted lifetime Supercharging incentive, but only to individuals who had received their Model S, X, or Y vehicles before December 31, when the firm relaunched the campaign with the amended 2024 timeline.
The option to transfer lifelong Supercharging motivates owners to purchase new vehicles because it allows them to use Superchargers for free on a new Tesla rather than continuing to drive their old models to reap the advantage. The charging benefit does not apply when owners utilize home charging, in which case they will be charged at their electricity provider's usual rate.
Navigating the Landscape of FSD Beta Transfers and Supercharging Limits
Tesla also made it possible to undertake a one-time car transfer of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta software last year, providing a comparable benefit to anyone who took delivery before September 30, as per Teslarati. Unlike the free Supercharging transfers, the FSD beta transfer option has only been offered once. However, several have urged that Tesla make it available again in the future.
Tesla first capped the free lifetime Supercharging offer in 2017, stating that it could only be used for up to 400 kWh of Supercharger utilization per year.
