In a promising update, Tesla's VP of Public Policy, Rohan Patel, reveals ongoing regulatory work for the Cybertruck's Canadian launch. The Full Self-Driving (FSD) subscription is also set to roll out in the country in the next few weeks, as confirmed by Patel on March 10.
Despite earlier setbacks, Patel assured Canadian Tesla enthusiasts that the highly anticipated Cybertruck will soon be navigating Canadian roads. Tesla North reports increasing deliveries in the US, while Patel emphasizes the team's dedication to meeting regulatory requirements for a smooth Canadian release. The FSD subscription, priced at $199 per month, aims to enhance driving experiences for Tesla owners in Canada.
Tesla's Optimistic Update: Canadian Debut of Cybertruck Nears Amidst Regulatory Progress and FSD Launch
When asked about the Cybertruck for Canadians, Tesla's Vice President of Public Policy and Business Development provided an update on Saturday morning.
"@cybertruck team is gonna make this happen and is working on the regulatory paperwork and submissions. Canadian authorities have been super reasonable, so I'm very optimistic," said Patel.
"The [Cybertruck] is gonna be a huge hit in Canada as we can see from the wild amount of interest. Please be patient with us and know that the team is focused on getting this done," he added.
Tesla North reports that many customers are accepting Cybertruck deliveries in the United States as Giga Texas ramps up production of the truck. Patel previously shared that Canadians will also gain Full Self-Driving (FSD) subscriptions in the coming weeks.
Tesla VP Acknowledges Oversight: Full Self-Driving Subscriptions En Route to Canada, Addressing Delay and Anticipating Positive Impact
In February, Rohan Patel, Tesla's Vice President of Public Policy and Business Development, provided an update on Canada's Full Self-Driving (FSD) subscriptions, stating that he was looking into the matter.
On March 10, Patel announced that FSD subscriptions would be available in Canada "in the coming weeks."
"Elon approved this Canada update, and the team is working on the technical and regulatory procedures to make sure we don't trigger any unintended provincial issues. Barring any setbacks, I'd expect this in the coming weeks," Patel stated.
"I take responsibility for missing this one when the team flagged it for me many months ago. Very much appreciate the Tesla community on X advocating to get this done, and I'm excited for more people to subscribe to FSD up north. The level of FSD improvement in terms of function and safety is impressive and encouraging," he said.
Patel continued to accept responsibility for the delay in FSD subscriptions in Canada, which are currently only available in the United States. "It was a mistake, and I feel stupid for not listening more closely to my team about it. "We will do better, keep improving, and take customer feedback seriously," he added.
FSD subscriptions cost USD 199 per month, which is approximately CAD 269 per month based on current exchange rates. FSD beta version 12 is currently available for testing in a limited capacity.
The ability to offer FSD subscriptions will allow Tesla owners to test the software upgrade or use it on road trips to make driving easier.
