The CW's post-apocalyptic science fiction drama “The 100” wrapped up its fifth season earlier this month. Fans who witnessed the destruction of the Shadow Valley may wonder where the series will go for its sixth season considering how unexpected the final reveal was.
For those following the series, “The 100” season 5 finale shows, through Monty's (Christopher Larkin) logs, that Earth cannot recuperate from the damage it has sustained over the years. This revelation comes even after 125 years have passed for the survivors of the Shadow Valley's destruction. What Bellamy (Bob Morley) and Clarke (Eliza Taylor) are shown is a wholly new planet from which the survivors of “The 100” can hopefully begin anew.
Fans will be glad to know that “The 100” season 6 will still have the potential for the classic conflicts between Bellamy and Octavia (Marie Avgeropoulos). The new world means new potential power structures that the most charismatic of the survivors will have to fight over, or work together to create. But the new setting also introduces new possibilities for conflict.
“The 100” season 6 could play the plot straight and simply move on to a story focused on survival on a new planet. But the introduction of a different habitable planet opens up questions such as if the “The 100” crew will be fighting only amongst themselves or if they will encounter other beings, which will prove a challenge for the survivors. If the survivors do encounter alien life or civilizations, fans can now speculate whether this becomes a new trend in “The 100's” future storytelling.
“The 100” has officially been renewed by The CW for a sixth season. Unfortunately for fans, the show has yet to have an official air date for its premiere episode. Fans can look forward to 2019 for “The 100” season 6.
