NBC has yet to announce if “The Enemy Within” Season 2 is happening, leaving its fans worried about the future of the police procedural. Add the fact that the network has announced its fall 2019-2020 TV schedule and it’s understandable that the show’s following is a bit nervous at the moment.
However, audiences shouldn’t worry just yet given that the finale of the first installment just aired. There’s no doubt that NBC is still looking at the numbers to see if it can justify that ordering of “The Enemy Within” Season 2.
So what do the numbers say? Well, the series has an average rating of .75 in the 18-49 demographic and has attracted a steady 4.4 million viewers a week. This puts the series at number 10 for NBC’s scripted show between 2018 and 2019, TV Series Finale reported. “The Enemy Within” Season 2 joins “The Village” and “AP Bio” in the category of series that have yet to be ordered by the network.
Judging by the numbers, however, there’s a high chance that NBC will be renewing the series, especially since its following can still grow by a considerable margin if word of mouth spreads. “The Enemy Within” Season 2 also opens up a lot of possible plotlines for the series given that Shepherd (Jennifer Carpenter) has been offered a job within the counter-terrorism division by Keaton (Morris Chestnut).
The pair’s relationship didn’t exactly start off swimmingly given Shepherd’s history of compromising previous agents and shooting Keaton on the clavicle. But she had proven herself to be quite the operative when her expertise led to the death of Tal (Lev Gorn), the same person responsible for Shepherd’s incarceration. “The Enemy Within” Season 2 is looking to expand the relationship between both characters, with an even bigger villain looming at them both, TVInsider reported.
Before Tal’s death, he revealed to Shepherd that he was acting on the orders from someone high up the CIA ladder. The antagonist then offered her the chance to find this mystery man if she spares him. Shepherd, of course, didn’t fall for the trick and killed Tal the moment he reached for his gun. Armed with this edge, Shepherd is in a position to blindside this puppeteer, and it would be interesting to see how the writers set up this villain’s demise in “The Enemy Within” Season 2.
