Now that FOX has ordered “The Orville” Season 3, fans of the sci-fi series have been asking when the show will return. Unfortunately, there’s still no news from the network when this will be.
The first and second installment dropped on the month of September and December respectively. With FOX announcing on May 11 that “The Orville” Season 3 has been greenlighted, the series could come out in late 2019 or early 2020 if production goes smoothly, GameRevolution reported.
Prior to the renewal, fans have been worried that the show would be canceled due to FOX’s bias at abandoning sci-fi series in the past. But given that the predecessors of “The Orville” Season 3 have been performing quite well for the network, the pickup was expected by those working within the show.
Indeed, Kylden actor Chad Coleman said that prior to the announcement, there was a certain atmosphere that hung on the show indicating that it will be greenlit at some point. It also helps that “The Orville” Season 3 received $15.8 million in TV tax credits, a $1.3 million increase compared to what the second entry received.
What’s more, the show is also providing FOX with 1.4 million and 1.8 million in views coming from the 18-49 demographic. The second installment managed to land a 0.7 rating and 2.92 million viewers in Live+Same Day, providing more reason for the network to order “The Orville” Season 3, Deadline reported,
Regarding its plotline, nothing has been revealed just yet. However, going by how the second entry ended, it appears that multiple personal relationships will be explored in “The Orville” Season 3. With Kelly (Adrianne Palicki) accepting a second date from Ed (MacFarlane), it appears that the showrunners are setting up a deeper storyline for the pair in the upcoming entry.
Alara (Halston Sage) and John (J. Lee), on the other hand, is still up for debate whether their plotline will be expanded. The story has revealed that the duo has a bit of history within the new timeline that’s been setup and it would be interesting to see if the showrunners create more compelling narrative centered on the two.
