The character designs for Isabella, Don, and Gilda in “The Promised Neverland” anime series has just been released and it seems they don't look much different from their manga counterparts. This shouldn’t really be a surprise since the animated Emma, Norman, and Ray looks basically the same as well.
Fans of the source manga written by Kaiu Shirai know that Isabella, also known as Mama, plays a vital role as the main antagonist of the first arc of the series as she runs the Grace Field House orphanage. Meanwhile, Don is one of the smarter boys in the orphanage and he happens to be a skilled pickpocket as he manages to steal Isabella’s key without her noticing.
Along with Emma, Gilda is one of the first to realize that something is wrong at the Grace Field House. Interestingly, the animated Gilda doesn’t share the greenish hair of her manga counterpart and fans are likely to complain about this oversight.
“The Promised Neverland” will be streamed exclusively on Amazon Prime Video, but some fans don’t really like the service it provides. “I was already expecting this but I had a tiny bit of hope it may go somewhere else, most Amazon Prime content is blocked in my country... I would have preferred Crunchyroll or Netflix,” a fan posted on Twitter.
“Yeah, it really sucks when they did that, but they've been much better about it lately, although they still screw up sometimes,” another commented on Reddit. “And I'm not a huge fan of their player/website either. I just torrent the episodes anyway even though I have Prime because it's more convenient for me.”
“The Promised Neverland” anime series is scheduled to premiere in January 2019 on Fuji TV with Sumire Morohoshi, Mariya Ise, and Maaya Uchida voicing Emma, Ray, and Norman, respectively. The rest of the voice cast still hasn’t been confirmed, but CloverWorks will likely reveal more details in the next couple of months.
