Many expectations were not met this year when EA and Maxis did not mention plans for “The Sims 5” on any of their official events throughout 2019. It now appears that it is best for fans not to get their hopes up in 2020 as more expansion packs could still be in the making for “The Sims 4.”
‘The Sims 4’ expansion packs in 2020 already lined up?
In the absence of official updates on the development of “The Sims 5,” fans are left guessing and speculating on the next game’s release date window. But one thing they can count on for clues is the slew of updates and new content still in the pipeline for TS4.
While EA and Maxis remain silent on “The Sims 5,” the developers kept giving hints that they still have plenty of content planned for TS4. EA commented at the Q1 fiscal year 2020 earnings meeting that TS4 is still one of its best IPs. “We are planning for FY '20 to be our biggest year yet of new content,” EA CEO Andrew Wilson said.
Maxis developers Dave Miotke and Michael Duke gave away some teasers, during the December Maxis Monthly stream, that the packs they have planned for TS4 in 2020 are highly unpredictable. “I think it's going to be a very interesting upcoming year full of unexpected turns and twists, and it's going to be a lot of fun,” Miotke added.
Miotke and Duke noted that some fans might be thinking they are out of recurring themes to bring back as expansion packs for TS4. Miotke then added that 2020 is a “time to surprise” avid fans of “The Sims.” This could be a glaring hint at an all-new expansion pack joining the life simulation video game series.
‘The Sims 5’ release date: When to expect the next installment
As mentioned, the amount of content still slated to be released in the TS4 timeline could be the closest to a “The Sims 5” update that fans could get. With not even an announcement in sight for 2020, it is still difficult to predict when the next game will be released. It now appears that the more logical advice is just to enjoy TS4 and the content packs EA and Maxis have in store for 2020 and possibly the year after that.
