“The Winds of Winter” finally has a due date and this is not fake news because it was George RR Martin who personally made the announcement. After almost eight years of waiting for the fifth book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series, the date has finally been set, and fans are excited.
Martin unexpectedly set the deadline for “The Winds of Winter” as he was responding to a video ad created by the New Zealand Air. The airline invited the 70-year-old author to visit NZ and continue writing his book there so he can finish it soon.
“We’ve noticed that between red carpets and talk show interviews, you’re having a bit of trouble finishing your next book,” a voice in the ad stated. “We call that, ‘Quite a bit of pressure,’ so how are you meant to be creative when you’re probably as nervous as a Stark with a wedding invite?”
Martin responded via his Not a Blog page. He said that he already been in New Zealand and knows how splendid the country is and really have the perfect atmosphere for writers like him. However, he declined the offer for free tickets as he said he would use his own money to go there because, in fact, he is scheduled to visit and attend the upcoming World Science Fiction Convention that will be held on July 29, 2020. The exciting part is that he mentioned “The Winds of Winter” and revealed the due date.
“I tell you this. If I don’t have ‘The Winds of Winter’ in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for Worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done,” Martin wrote.
Then again, just a week after the announcement, news that Martin has signed up for a new job surfaced. Deadline reported that he was assigned to be the Chief World Builder for Meow Wolf, and arts and entertainment company that holds interactive exhibitions, based in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
His sudden involvement in Meow Wolf raised fears that Martin will once again delay the release of “The Winds of Winter” since he was supposed to focus on it so he can beat the deadline. Meow Wolf will open an exhibit next year and apparently, the “TWOW” author has a lot to do. Fans are just hoping that George RR Martin will keep his promise this time despite having new projects in his hands.
