“The Winds of Winter” has yet to arrive, eight years after the fifth book in the “A Song of Fire and Ice” series was published. This is the sixth book, so fans have been waiting for this for so long now, however, no exact release date is available until now.
The new promised publishing date
Then again, George RR Martin, the author of the book, did make a new promise and mentioned a period when “The Winds of Winter” is coming to the bookstores. After being invited by New Zealand’s airline to come to their country for free, so he can finish “TWOW,” he declined the offer and said that he will fly there later and using his own money.
In a post on his blog site, he wrote that the book will be in his hands when he attends the WorldCon in New Zealand next year. It turns out he will really have to visit the country because he will be gracing the event that will take place from July 29 to Aug. 2, 2020. Thus, these are the expected dates for the release of the much-awaited book.
Why fans are doubting the promised release date
Fans are worrying that George RR Martin will once again fail to fulfill his promise of Martin can really publish the book on the date he suggested. This is because the novel still has many chapters that need to be edited and written. The 70-year-old said in an interview that he has many chapters for the book and the problem is he can’t shorten the story to make it to the final cut for “The Winds of Winter.”
Moreover, as per Screen Rant, the author is not yet done writing the book because he keeps accepting new projects which are causing him to stop working on it. Plus, it was reported that there will be a “Game of Thrones” prequel and he will write some scripts for this for sure. With the new show on hand, “The Winds of Winter” might take a back seat again.
Deadline reported that HBO will order the prequel to “GoT” and Martin is set to be one of its writers and co-executive producers. This will surely disappoint fans but then the author said earlier that his first priority is finishing nd publishing “The Winds of Winter” so fans are hoping they will not be disappointed this time around.
