‘Thor: Ragnarok’ director Taika Waititi revealed that he plans to balance action with humor in the latest film in the MCU. Meanwhile, Tom Hiddleston teased of a possible rematch between his character Loki and Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner a.k.a. The Hulk.
According to Comicbook.com, Waititi intends to inject some light-hearted humor into the newest installment in the ‘Thor’ cinematic series. He said, “As much as I love action and spectacle, I think my strength and what I’m really interested in mostly is character. It’s a hard balance, because you’ve still got to blow sh*t up.”
It was suggested that the director plans to make use of lead actor Chris Hemsworth’s penchant for comedy to add a more fun atmosphere to the upcoming film in contrast to its more serious predecessor ‘Thor: The Dark World’ helmed by Alan Taylor. He said, “It’s silly not to use that [Chris’ comedy]. He’s so good.”
Hemsworth’s versatile acting skills will be featured in the upcoming reboot of ‘Ghostbusters’ alongside comediennes Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. The 32-year old Australian actor was first introduced as the crown prince of Asgard in the 2011 film ‘Thor’ and went on to reprise his role in the sequel ‘Thor: The Dark World’. He also appeared as Thor on other films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’.
Waititi also admitted that he was very particular about showing gadgets and the latest technology on his films. According to News.com.au, he said, "I don't like putting super-modern technology into my films… Whenever I put cellphones in my movie they're usually old Nokias… I can't tell you too much about the kind of cellphones that Thor uses… I will try and keep the same philosophy."
The filmmaker is best known for his work on independent films such as ‘Two Cars, One Night’, ‘What We Do In the Shadows’, and ‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople’. He is set to work on the upcoming Disney animated film ‘Moana’, scheduled to be released on November 2016.
He admitted that although he may have been an unconventional choice to helm a big-budget film for Marvel, he was up for the challenge. He said, "I am an outside choice for Thor for sure, even I see that, but that's what's good about Marvel, what's great about it… They're able to do that and it's paid off for them: getting people who aren't the natural choice. You see it again and again, so I'm very comfortable in the role. I'm weirdly relaxed.”
Meanwhile, Tom Hiddleston teased that the upcoming film may feature a rematch between Loki and Mark Ruffalo’s The Hulk. According to Cinema Blend, he said, “It’s no secret that the Hulk shows up in Ragnarok, and the last time Loki and Hulk were in the same room, [it] didn't go very well for Loki so, he's got a few chips on his shoulder. But yeah, it's fun, you'll see.”
‘Thor: Ragnarok’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film scheduled to be released on November 3, 2017. It is intended as the sequel to 2013’s ‘Thor: The Dark World’ and is part of the MCU’s Phase Three. ‘Thor: The Dark World’ received mixed reviews but proved to be a financial success after earning $644.6 million worldwide, against a production budget of $170 million.
