As electric vehicle options expand; leasing has become more affordable. In September, several EV models are available for under $300 a month, thanks to incentives like the $7,500 federal tax credit, loyalty offers, and significant discounts from automakers.
U.S. EV Sales Surge in 2024 as Automakers Offer Discounts, Incentives, and $7,500 Tax Credits
With more electric vehicle options than ever, EV driving has become increasingly affordable. As new models hit the market, leasing deals are heating up. Several electric vehicles are available to lease for under $300 a month in September.
According to Kelley Blue Book (via Electrek), a record 330,463 electric vehicles were sold in the U.S. during the second quarter of 2024, with EVs accounting for 8% of total new vehicle sales, up from 7.1% in the first quarter. The surge is attributed to the introduction of new models, significant discounts, and the ability to pass the $7,500 federal tax credit onto lessees.
Many automakers are combining the federal tax credit with additional incentives like lease bonus cash, loyalty offers, and conquest deals, resulting in savings of over $10,000 in some cases. For example, Kia’s three-row EV9 SUV had an average discount of more than $19,700 in July, while the Honda Prologue and Volkswagen ID.4 sold with average discounts of $7,035 and $13,015, respectively.
Several EVs are available for less than $300 per month in September. For example, the 2024 Kia Niro Wind EV is listed at $169 monthly for 24 months, with $3,999 due at signing. The effective cost comes to $336 per month. Other deals include the 2024 Honda Prologue EX, which is available for $269 per month for 36 months with $1,999 due at signing, bringing the effective cost to $325 per month. The Prologue has an impressive range of up to 296 miles.
Volkswagen’s ID.4 Standard is available for $219 monthly for 36 months, with $3,499 due at signing, making the effective monthly cost $316. Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 SEL RWD can be leased for $209 per month for 33 months, with $3,999 due upfront, translating to $330 monthly.
Hyundai, Kia, and Subaru Offer Affordable Lease Deals in September with Incentives and Discounts
For those looking for a slightly different style, the Hyundai IONIQ 6 SEL RWD is available at $299 per month for 33 months, while the Hyundai Kona Electric costs $362 monthly for 24 months. Kia’s EV6 Light Long Range RWD is also a top lease option this month, listed at $209 for 24 months with $3,999 due at signing. With a Tesla Conquest Cash discount, Tesla drivers can lease the EV6 for as low as $179 monthly with a $346 effective rate.
Though not listed among the deals, the Subaru Solterra is another notable option this month, starting at $329 per month for 36 months with no money down.
These EV lease deals, combined with substantial incentives and tax credits, make electric vehicles more affordable than ever, allowing drivers to save big on monthly payments.
