U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday evening that it will become clear within the next 24 hours whether Hamas will agree to a proposed ceasefire deal with Israel. Speaking to reporters in Washington after returning from Iowa, Trump stated, “We will know in the next 24 hours whether Hamas has agreed to a ceasefire.”
Earlier this week, Trump confirmed that Israel had accepted the terms for a 60-day ceasefire with Hamas, a move seen as a crucial step toward ending the prolonged conflict in Gaza. However, Hamas is reportedly demanding concrete assurances that any temporary ceasefire will lead to a complete cessation of hostilities.
The ongoing conflict has escalated in recent weeks, with Israel intensifying its military campaign against Hamas in Gaza, launching a series of air and ground strikes targeting key locations controlled by the Palestinian group. Despite international calls for restraint, the violence has continued unabated.
Trump’s remarks follow a Reuters report indicating that Hamas is still seeking guarantees before finalizing the deal. Meanwhile, a separate U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran has remained in effect for a second consecutive week. Sources suggest that this truce could pave the way for renewed nuclear negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
The next 24 hours could prove pivotal for Middle East peace efforts, as all eyes remain on Hamas’ response to the proposed ceasefire. If accepted, the deal may mark a turning point in reducing regional tensions and facilitating long-term diplomatic engagement. As the situation develops, global attention remains focused on whether a breakthrough in the Israel-Hamas conflict is finally within reach.
