LONDON, Oct. 18, 2016 -- Varonis Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:VRNS), a leading provider of software solutions that protect data from insider threats and cyberattacks, today announced it is a winner in the Computing Security Awards 2016. Varonis DatAdvantage was named the Auditing/Reporting Solution of the Year. Varonis was also awarded the Security Project of the Year - private sector for its work with customer Union Bank UK PLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Union Bank of Nigeria PLC.
Scaling across businesses of all sizes, Varonis DatAdvantage provides insight into file systems and the emails, files, presentations and spreadsheets stored on them, highlighting patterns, security risks and social connections to monitor and protect sensitive data from insider threats. From a single interface, administrators can quickly manage and visualize permissions and map groups of users to only the data they need to access.
Union Bank needed better visibility into the different types of sensitive data its employees were storing and accessing across its file systems. Regulatory requirements necessitated that the bank’s IT department regularly audit and report on who was accessing sensitive data, when and where, but they had no way of doing so efficiently. Also, with malware and ransomware on the rise, the bank needed a solution that could quickly alert the IT staff to unusual file access behavior such as rapid encryption of files stored on its servers. The search led Union Bank’s IT team to Varonis and its DatAdvantage and DatAlert solutions.
According to David Pennant, IT Manager at Union Bank, “Varonis DatAdvantage takes away the guesswork and allows us to easily set up rules and get reports on changes to files and folders. If we have an auditor come in, we don’t need to worry because we are confident that with Varonis any question the auditor might have can be answered.”
“Before Varonis, we had no real view of what was happening on the file servers or changes happening on a day-to-day basis,” continued Pennant. “We can’t afford to spend a large amount of time sifting through logs. We need to stay focused on day-to-day tasks and therefore needed a more efficient approach. It was immediately obvious that Varonis could give us the automated, efficient approach we were looking for. Thanks to Varonis, IT now has better insight into the bank’s data, and that, of course, reduces security risk, which is something which you can’t always put a price on.”

David Gibson, Varonis Vice President of Strategy and Market Development, said, "At Varonis, we empower companies to discover where their sensitive data is overexposed, uncover vulnerable or stale data, lock it down without interrupting their businesses activities, and alert on unusual activity. Administrators can manage and visualize permissions, mapping groups of users to only the data they need access to. Varonis user behavioral monitoring and profiling offers what we believe is an unmatched ability to monitor and protect data from ransomware infections, hijacked accounts, disgruntled employees, abusive administrators, and other suspicious insider threat actions. We are delighted to have won the Auditing/Reporting Solution of the Year and to have been honored with the award for Security Project of the Year at the 2016 Computing Security Awards.”
