It is quite common for new versions of any operating system to have issues in the first months of its availability, and this has been the case for Windows 11. Microsoft recently recognized an issue that affects image editors on PCs running the new OS and promised to release a fix soon.
As first spotted by Windows Latest, the company has updated the list of known issues on Windows 11 to confirm that image editing applications using Win32 APIs are showing color rendering issues. Officially, the problem is still being investigated. But Microsoft has already stated that the issue causes colors to render incorrectly on some HDR displays.
“This issue occurs when certain color-rendering Win32 APIs return unexpected information or errors under specific conditions,” Microsoft added. The issue primarily affects white colors, causing them to display in bright yellow or other colors in affected Windows 11 computers.
However, the company also noted that the issue does not affect all color profile management programs. These can be calibrated through the Windows 11 Settings page and Microsoft Color Control Panel.
While Microsoft continues to investigate the problem, the company already has a time frame when its fix will be released. The company estimates that a solution could be available in late January 2022.
The Windows 11 update officially went live in early October. However, it is gradually rolling out to compatible devices that meet the hardware requirements. PC users can use the PC Health Check app or open the Windows Update menu from the Windows 11 Settings page to check if their device is eligible to get the update.
Despite the known issues in Windows 11, Microsoft says there has been a “high rate of positive update experiences” and recommends PC users to update their device when it is available to them. Microsoft has not released a defined timeline for the Windows 11 rollout, but said it is “advancing the pace of the rollout faster” following the positive feedback.
Last September, the company said some devices might not receive the update until mid-2022. “We recommend that you upgrade your devices to Windows 11 to take advantage of the latest features and advanced protections from security threats,” Microsoft added.
