‘Wonder Woman’ actress Gal Gadot expressed her opinion that only a female director could helm the DC heroine’s standalone film in the DCEU. She also talked about her experience with working with director Patty Jenkins. Meanwhile, a panel for the film is expected at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gadot admitted that only a female director could successfully translate Diana Prince’s outing on the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) properly on the big screen. She said, “I think it’s important. It’s a story about a girl becoming a woman. I think only a woman, who has been a girl, can be able to tell the story in the right way.”
The 31-year old Israeli model and actress was first introduced as the iconic super heroine in Zack Snyder’s ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’. She is set to reprise her role for the character’s standalone film slated to premiere in theaters on 2017. In addition, she will return to the DCEU once more for the planned adaptation of ‘Justice League’.
Gadot is best known for her role as Gisele Yashar on ‘The Fast & The Furious’ action franchise. She made her acting debut on Justin Lin’s ‘Fast & Furious’, released in 2009. She is also set to appear on the upcoming action-comedy film ‘Keeping Up with the Joneses’, which is currently in post-production ahead of its scheduled release on October 2016.
When asked about working with ‘Wonder Woman’ director Patty Jenkins, she admitted that it was a totally different experience much unlike working with male directors in the past. She explained, “It feels like the communication is different. We talk about emotions. With Patty, it’s a thing now, we communicate with our eyes. She doesn’t need to say a thing. If I’m hurt, she feels the pain. It’s a whole different connection that I have with her. She’s also brilliant, she’s bright, she’s fierce, she’s sharp. She knows exactly what she wants Wonder Woman to be.”
She added, “When Patty and I had our creative conversations about the character, we realized that Diana can still be a normal woman, one with very high values, but still a woman. She can be sensitive. She is smart and independent and emotional. She can be confused. She can lose her confidence. She can have confidence. She is everything. She has a human heart.”
According to the Independent, Jenkins has been granted a production budget of $100 million for the upcoming superhero film. She said during a previous interview, “Part of the reason I’m in such a good mood is this is the movie I’ve wanted to make my entire life… I feel so grateful that I get to be able to do this.”
Meanwhile, various new on-screen and off-screen images from the film were recently released through the special Comic-con themed issue of Entertainment Weekly. The photographs posted on HitFix were released ahead of the much anticipated 2016 Comic-Con in San Diego, California, where a ‘Wonder Woman’ panel is expected.
Gadot is expected to make an appearance at the upcoming annual event as Warner Bros. promotes the new film together with other properties such as ‘Suicide Squad’, ‘Kong: Skull Island’, and ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’. The panel will take place at the San Diego Convention Center’s Hall H on July 23, 2016.
‘Wonder Woman’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film scheduled to be released on June 2, 2017. It is produced under Warner Bros., DC Entertainment, Atlas Entertainment, Cruel & Unusual Films, and Dune Entertainment.
