Blizzard is known for its spectacularly spot-on pop culture references in its titles, and “World of Warcraft” is no exception. For its “Legion” expansion, the company is adding a new character in the game among many, and players of “Destiny” will recognize this person instantly. The vendor “Xur” will be making an appearance in “Azeroth,” and just in time for the Demons’ return to take over the world once again.
As Gamespot points out, “WoW” featuring a character from another property by Activision was just to be expected. So when fans found out that “Xur,” the hated arms merchant from “Destiny” would be added to the universe of “Azeroth” as part of the MMORPG’s latest expansion, many were not surprised.
“Legion” is in closed beta right now, but many of the privileged players who were allowed to try it out have already made the connection between a merchant in Dalaran named "Xur'ios” and “Xur” from Destiny.
Aside from the amazing similarities in their names, "Xur'ios” resembled “Xur” in practically every way. The items that he sells in the game are related to “Destiny” in a lot of ways and even the currency with which these items can be bought called “Curious Coins” is a nod to the FPS game’s “Strange Coins.”
Most of the items that can be purchased from "Xur'ios” are fixed, according to Game Rant, with only one slot undergoing a rotation once a day. The rotating items will hold the most interest for “Destiny” players because they include some stark references to items from the game, including “Krota’s Shield” and “Gjallar’s ‘Horn’.”
As for the expansion itself, fans of the franchise since the early “Warcraft” games will meet “Illidan Stormrage” once again. This time, the famed demon hunter won’t be an antagonist, but will actually help players fight against the host enemies that will be coming to take over “Azeroth.”
