“World of Warcraft” can now pre-purchase the game’s upcoming expansion called “Dragonflight.” Blizzard Entertainment also confirmed this week that the update would be released later this year.
‘World of Warcraft: Dragonflight’ release date, gameplay
The “World of Warcraft: Dragonflight” expansion was officially announced back in April -- not without leaks a few weeks prior -- confirming that dragons will be at the center of the next events in the game’s lore. At the time of the announcement, though, Blizzard initially left out a crucial detail regarding when the expansion will be released.
The good news is fans no longer have to keep guessing now that the developer has confirmed that “World of Warcraft: Dragonflight” is slated to launch this year. But fans will still have to wait for further announcements for the expansion’s exact release date.
“We are thrilled to share that we’ll be bringing our next expansion to players later this year,” executive producer Holly Longdale said in a press release. “Dragonflight is a return to Azeroth, and the freedom and exploration that World of Warcraft is known for.”
As the title suggests, the game’s dragonkind will be the focus of the next expansion. But “World of Warcraft: Dragonflight” will also mark the game’s return to Azeroth with emphasis on the Dragon Isles, where dragonkind originated.
Similar to previous “World of Warcraft” expansions, “Dragonflight” will increase the game’s level cap to 70. It will also introduce new zones in the Dragon Isles, including the Walking Shores, the Ohn’ahran Plains, the Azure Span, and the Thaldraszus. “The expansion introduces an extensive overhaul of the game’s character talent system, which offers flavorful and impactful talent choices at every level,” Blizzard said in the same press release.
‘World of Warcraft: Dragonflight’ pre-purchase details
Following this week’s announcements, fans can now pre-purchase “World of Warcraft: Dragonflight” through Battle.net and choose from three bundle options. Players can get the expansion starting at $49.99 for the Base Edition that comes with a Drakks Pet bonus item and access to the all-new race and class Dracthyr Evoker. The Heroic Edition ($69.99) will offer an additional character boost to level 60, while the Epic Edition ($89.99) comes with more bonus items and a free 30-day game time.
