The list of third-party games being added to the Xbox Game Pass library is getting longer. The newest addition is Exor Studios’ “The Riftbreaker,” arriving in subscribers’ catalog at launch for free.
‘The Riftbreaker’ comes to Xbox Game Pass on day one
Indie developer Exor Studios announced in an Xbox blog post on Friday confirming that their next project will be available to Xbox Game Pass members at no additional cost. To some video game fans, this may be the first time they hear about “The Riftbreaker,” but its previews show it is worth checking out.
“The Riftbreaker” will be available via Xbox Game Pass for console and PC players. A video description from the Xbox YouTube channel indicates the game will also be available via the cloud, which means eligible Android phones and tablets can also access it.
Exor Studios has yet to announce a specific release date for “The Riftbreaker,” but it is slated sometime in the fall. Once it is out, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will be able to play the game on day one.
‘The Riftbreaker’ gameplay: What to expect
“The Riftbreaker” combines multiple video game elements, such as RPG and survival, but its main features focus on base building. This is tied to the game’s plot, where players will assume the role of Captain Ashley Nowak. She appears to be an advanced party to the planet of Galatea 37, whose main task is to prepare and study the planet for human colonization.
The “survival” aspect kicks in as the Galatea 37 is not exactly an empty planet. In a 6-minute trailer, video game fans will find Ashley -- wearing her powerful mecha-suit -- fending off hordes of alien creatures. As a base-building game, it is also Ashley’s task to establish a base where colonizers can take off to go back to Earth or as a starting point for further exploration of the planet.
PC gamers who want to be more familiar with “The Riftbreaker” before it comes to Xbox Game Pass can take advantage of its free demo available right now through the Microsoft Store. The demo is free and will not spoil details from the main campaign as it features the game’s “prologue” covering events that happen to Ashley in Galatea 37 before the actual story campaign begins.
