Both titles are now available for download on the Xbox Marketplace. Developed by Triumph studios and published by Codemasters, the first “Overlord” game was released back in 2007, with the second following shortly in 2009. The series has had further games released on other platforms such as the Wii and the Nintendo DS, with "Overlord: Fellowship of Evil" being the latest native Xbox One release.
Rhianna Pratchett, daughter of the late Terry Pratchett, helmed the writing for both “Overlord” and “Overlord II,” which lends the game its satirical voice. The series's humor pokes fun at the heroic stereotypes and traditional fantasy setting that you, the Overlord, encounter as you smother those same heroes and traditional fantasy elements with your own brand of evil.
The gameplay for the “Overlord” series is a mix of action roleplaying components, real-time strategy, and resource management as the player manages their personal gear, lair, and even their minions as they command them on the battlefield.
The “Overlord” games are backward compatible even with the old Xbox 360 Discs. Xbox One owners with copies of the old Xbox 360 game can just pop the old “Overlord” discs into the Xbox One disc drive and let the magic happen. The games will also appear in the Ready to Download section of the "My Games and Apps" menu for anyone who has previously purchased them digitally through their Microsoft account.
Prior to “Overlord” and “Overlord II”, "Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter" and "Assassin's Creed: Liberation" were the most recent games to be added to the backward compatibility list, last July 3.
