The “Xbox One” finally outsold the “PlayStation 4” for the month of July, effectively ending the winning streak of Sony’s console since its release. This allowed Aaron Greenberg, the marketing head for Xbox to feel optimistic about their console’s chances of performing similarly well for the month of August. This is especially likely due to the overwhelmingly positive reception for the “Xbox One S.”
In an interview with Windows Central, Greenberg expressed his optimism about the “Xbox One’s” chances for this month and the reasons for why he thinks that their console will do well again.
"We saw tons of momentum coming out of E3,” Greenberg said. “It was a huge show for us. We announced a lot. Two new consoles. We showcased a huge games lineup, a lot of Xbox Live innovation. It's great to see the July NPD as a result. We had a really good response coming out of that. In August, I think we're going to sell a lot of consoles."
Greenberg didn’t specifically say that he thinks the “Xbox One” would win against the “PS4” even when he was asked directly about it. He says that they are more focused on their own business and their own console to make sure that they see the same or even better numbers for August. It would seem that the Xbox team is banking on the “S,” in particular, to pull them through.
The one thing that could potentially derail this progress is the matter of “Project Scorpio.” As Business Insider pointed out, this new offering by Microsoft is promised to be the most powerful console to have ever been created. It would have to be in order to step up the game, particularly with the introduction of virtual reality games.
“Scorpio” is expected to come out sometime in 2017, and is thus a cause for a dilemma. Will gamers buy the “Xbox One” or “S” now and potentially be left out once the more powerful console comes out? Or will they simply wait for 2017 and get a supposedly much better console then?
