Xiaomi is on the brink of launching the MIX Flip, its first foray into the flip smartphone market. Leaks have revealed cutting-edge camera technology, a 1.5K display, and a mid-2024 launch window.
Xiaomi Set to Enter Flip Phone Market with Launch of Advanced MIX Flip Model
Xiaomi is gearing up to unveil its inaugural flip smartphone, the MIX Flip, marking a significant pivot from its initial 2021 plans.
Initially, the company developed a flip model codenamed "argo," equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset. However, this model was shelved in favor of releasing the first generation of the MIX FOLD that same year. After a substantial hiatus, Xiaomi is set to launch the MIX Flip.
Leaks from GSMChina have provided some insights into the specifications of the MIX Flip, codenamed “ruyi.” The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (SM8650) processor is expected to power the device.
Render images based on speculative designs suggest the smartphone will feature a dual-camera setup on the back, complemented by a small secondary screen beneath the cameras for notification alerts and selfie functions.
The Android Headlines team, drawing information from the HyperOS source code, has disclosed further details about the MIX Flip's camera capabilities.
The primary camera sensor, dubbed the Light Hunter 800 (ovx8000), is based on Omnivision's OV50E sensor, boasting a 50MP resolution and a 1/1.55-inch sensor size. This sensor, notable for its use in models like the Redmi K70 Pro, promises superior imaging capabilities.
The auxiliary camera utilizes the Omnivision OV60A sensor, featuring a 60MP resolution, a 1/2.8-inch sensor size, and 0.61µm pixels. This sensor, typically deployed in front cameras of various smartphones, including the Motorola Edge 40 Pro and Edge 30 Ultra, has been intriguingly positioned at the rear of the MIX Flip.
This strategic placement, alongside the secondary screen, enables users to utilize the main camera setup for high-quality selfies and provides 2x optical zoom capabilities.
Additionally, the MIX Flip incorporates a 32MP OV32B selfie camera for specific use cases, a sensor found in devices like the Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Motorola Edge 40.
MIX Flip to Feature 1.5K Display with Mid-2024 Expected Launch, Xiaomi Reveals
Speculation about the MIX Flip's display suggests a 1.5K screen resolution, a step down from the 2K resolution in the Xiaomi 14 Pro and Redmi K70 Pro. This inference is based on code analysis within Mi Code, indicating a pixel density value of “520,” which aligns with expectations for a 1.5K display.
The anticipated launch window for the MIX Flip is between May and June 2024, deduced from model numbers “2405CPX3DG/2405CPX3DC,” with "2405" potentially referencing May 2024. However, Xiaomi's exact launch date remains unconfirmed.
