AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 30, 2016 -- Xplore Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:XPLR) today announced that one of the largest field service and engineering companies in the electric utility sector has ordered an additional 100 XSLATE B10 fully rugged tablet PCs, along with additional batteries, battery chargers, and AC adapters . This is in addition to 700 XSLATE B10s the customer ordered and began deploying nationwide in early 2016 in support of repair and restoration efforts for North America’s aging utility infrastructure.
Mark Holleran, president and COO of Xplore noted: “Customer acceptance of the XSLATE B10 has been tremendous since its launch in September 2015. Many utility sector leaders, including this customer, have experienced near-immediate ROI after mobilizing critical workflows on the B10. As a result, we are receiving several repeat orders for this fully rugged tablet, even though it has only been available for approximately one year.”
Nearly 90 percent of the customer’s 3,000 employees are mobile, spending all day in the field – mostly on foot – in extreme environmental conditions. The award-winning XSLATE B10 is IP65 and MIL-STD-810G rated, and the first rugged mobile computer to offer up to eight sealed I/O ports as a standard built-in feature. This was one of several reasons the utility infrastructure service provider chose the XSLATE B10 as its primary computing platform.
Upon rollout, all 800 XSLATE B10s are going to be used by the customer’s field service technicians in the inspection, assessment, repair, and installation of wood and steel electrical and telephone poles. The B10s will also be used to conduct field surveys and audits of the utility infrastructure. By deploying the B10 for real time collection, aggregation, sharing, and review of operational data, the customer can now more efficiently manage inventory, crew routing, status reporting, and related processes without delay.
“From the very beginning, this customer expressed the need for a highly scalable and uncompromising mobile computing solution that would replicate a high performance desktop PC experience – and the XSLATE B10 tablet PC delivered just that,” Holleran added. “They recognized the value of the tablet PC form factor as they had previously used non-Xplore tablets for field operations. However, our competitors’ legacy devices just couldn’t keep up the rising data demands or modern workflow mobility requirements like Xplore’s future-proof solutions are designed to do.”
Also contributing to their decision was the B10’s sunlight-readable display, Wet and Glove Touch data entry capabilities, support for Windows® 7 and 10 OS, Intel® Broadwell generation Core-Series processors, and 8GB Ram. This feature set combination enables field service personnel to connect with back-office data systems and interact with necessary workflow applications no matter their location or surrounding environmental conditions. The additional hot-swappable batteries will provide up to 20 hours of power for each user, and the B10’s built-in 4G LTE broadband and 802.11ac Wi-Fi technologies will provide reliable data access and communications channels for the widely dispersed field service teams around the clock.
