Apple might be secretive when it comes to upcoming products like new Apple Watches. But some things — like codes from the iOS 12 beta — cannot help but spoil the surprise.
The iPhone maker announced the iOS 12 during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) earlier this year, following its annual tradition for new operating systems for their hardware products. So, from then on, developers can expect to receive beta versions of the iOS 12 in the coming months.
Apple released the second beta update of iOS 12, along with tvOS 12, macOS Mojave, and watchOS 5, on Tuesday. And pieces of evidence were spotted telling observers that Apple will launch a new set of Apple Watches this year.
As first reported by 9To5Mac, the iOS 12 codes are making a reference to unreleased Apple Watches with identifiers Watch4,1, Watch4,2, Watch4,3, and Watch4,4 as well as an array of model numbers that reportedly pertain to the upcoming wearable devices.
Apple Watch has its own OS; however, most of its functions are still carried out through an iOS device. This means that an upcoming iOS update also has to be able to identify new Apple Watches. So instances of discovering codes for upcoming Apple Watches within the iOS are somehow not surprising.
Aside from the identifiers and model numbers, iOS 12 codes do not say anything else about the specifications or design of the rumored new Apple Watches. It is also possible that the developments of iOS 12 and the new smartwatches are still in too early phases for Apple to include more specific details.
Meanwhile, the rumor mill is always filled with reports about the possible upgrades on upcoming devices. In the case of the next-generation Apple Watch, it is speculated to sport an edge-to-edge screen, which will increase the display by 15 percent. Apple’s next wearable devices are also expected to benefit from an improved water-resistance feature and bigger battery capacity.
Every year, Apple holds a press event in the month of September where it unveils new iPhones and Apple Watches, and that is probably going to be the same story in 2018.
